Peace and Quiet

My dear friends, don’t believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you. Not everyone who talks about God comes from God. There are a lot of lying preachers loose in the world.

1 John 4:1

This has been the longest election in history, hasn’t it? The “information age” has created a monster - we can no longer believe everything we read in newspapers or see on television or hear on the radio. E-mails - in vast quantities - are flying through cyberspace faster than we can open our Inbox, and then, if we take the time to read any of them, we have to filter them, based on our own personal knowledge and on what we know to be true, to determine if the e-mail has any validity. And the media - well, the bias of the major news outlets has been proven over the past several months, and it leaves us all reeling because all we hope for, all we seek is the TRUTH.

God’s word - the Holy Bible - is TRUTH. We can believe - should believe - must believe - what we read in it. And it tells us not to believe everything we hear. It also tells us:

This is how much God loved the world. He gave His Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending His Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.

John 3: 16-18

This is the TRUTH. These are words we can believe - we can depend on them - have faith in them - trust them.
